The evening is anchored by our very own house band, the Collaborators. Featuring fabulous lady singers Jessica Reid and Leslie Young, who are oh-so-artfully backed up by their band, consisting of (but not always limited to): Kirk Parker, of the currently dormant Half a Mind, songwriter John Dolge, and the versatile Brian Neufeld.

This month, we also have guest artist Russ Dahler joining the band!

Our intrepid musicians wander the regions of acoustic folk-rock, pop, bluegrass, country, covering tunes by Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and venturing into Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles and more, with a special focus on the exquisite vocal harmonies of female-ish groups like Dala, The Wailin’ Jennys, and First Aid Kit.

Plus Amocat has specialty beers, panini, and fabulous espresso! Still no cover!! Best entertainment deal in town!!

Stop by Amocat during the month of March to witness work by political cartoonist extraordinaire, RR Anderson. Shunned by the local media as dangerous and too “far out” RR has been working underground online, publishing his “Tacomics” as he calls them through www.feedtacoma.com every Tuesday for 5 years. A compilation of his first 100 “Tacomics” was published – along with extensive notes and back stories – in a hardbound volume in 2010. No other contemporary history of Tacoma and her peoples such as this volume currently exists. There are a few copies available at Amocat, if you’re looking for one.

“Celebrate 5 long crushing years of RR Anderson’s hyper-local political cartooning history. The rise and fall of the City of Destiny. Shift happens, be the shift you want to see in others. We’re all adults… no need for nasty put-downs or toilet humor. Drawing with INT3GRITY since 2007.”

Just in time for the apocalypse,  Amocat Cafe just got in a limited number of wonderful Apocalypse Calendars! The calendars measure 11×17 and feature national artists PLUS Tacoma’s own Chandler O’Leary of Anagram Press fame! Some of the material may not be safe for work, viewer discretion is advised. Price: $20 (cheap!)

Amocat Cafe now has in stock a few limited edition Tacoma mermaid prints as seen in the recent exhibition hosted at the cafe by local artist, David Burns – not to be confused with famous documentary film maker guy David Burns although they both would probably get along just fine.

The prints are based on the logo used by Tacoma’s only 5-star hotel which burned under mysterious circumstances in the 1930s. The prints are approximately 12″ x 15″  and are signed and numbered by the artist. As soon as  he becomes famous, these should prove to be a very sound investment. They also look great on living room and bathroom walls.

Price: $20 (cheap!)
